Foundation Structure, Trustees, Accounts
There are three charitable funds
Royal Wolverhampton School Foundation (Charity No 1092211)
- This is the main charity, and it administers the others.
- Object: The advancement of education of persons of school age, in particular pupils who have, or are, attending the School.
- It holds uncommitted funds, donations and bequests received after 31 Aug 2016 for specific infrastructure and improvement projects.
The Royal Wolverhampton School Endowment Charity (529007)
- Object: The advancement of education of persons of school age, in particular pupils who have, or are, attending the School.
- It holds funds donated specifically for this purpose
- It holds funds committed by the Foundation, but as yet unpaid, to support individual pupils – following applications from the school.
The Leaving Exhibition Fund (Unincorporated Charity)
- Object: The award of grants to qualifying former pupils to enable them to attend any place of higher or further education or an equivalent course of study (including an apprenticeship).
- Funds held at 31 Aug 2016 by former School remained in the Foundation, mandated by Charity Commission Scheme Ref: 306/1617.
The Foundation is managed by Independent Trustees
Trustees in effect operate like Company Directors:
- Determining the Foundation's overall aims and setting specific objectives to achieve them
- Ensuring the Foundation achieves those objectives to the best of the Trustee's and the organisation's abilities
- Developing policies and ensuring the Foundation successfully implements and conforms to these policies
- Effectively and efficiently managing donated funds in line with donor wishes
- As a registered charity, conforming to charity and company law in word and in spirit.
The minimum number of Trustees is three. They are selected by the Trustees according to need, skills and experience. The current Trustees all have extensive personal experience of the school either as former pupils or Governors or both.

Current Trustees are:
Peter Hill FCMA, CGMA, CPFA- Chair of Trustees, appointed 2016
Formerly Chair of Governors of the independent and then Free School for 18 years, Peter is an Accountant & held senior financial management & director roles in Midlands companies including Lucas & GKN. After many years as a Consultant with PwC, specialising in Finance and IT, he became a Partner in EY (Ernst & Young) in London & Birmingham.
As European Vice-Chair of CAM-I he was a leader in the world-wide development of Activity Based Costing (ABC) & founded an IT company providing ABC software & consultancy services to the NHS & Financial Services organisations. As an acknowledged expert in this field he advised the NHS on how to cost patient care & to implement operational improvements.
His interests include Rugby Union (men's & women's), Leicester Tigers, Freemasonry and family.
Mike Masters – Trustee, Old Royal, appointed 2016
Mike was appointed as a Governor of the Royal Wolverhampton School in 2013, continuing as a Trustee of the renamed Royal Wolverhampton School Foundation in 2016.
He was appointed a director of RWS Enterprises Ltd in 2016.
Mike trained as a management accountant and held several senior positions in Midlands companies before joining an international Freight Forwarding and Courier company as a director for 16 years until retiring to West Wales where he is a director and company secretary of four local companies.
Joining the Old Royals Association management committee in 1974 Mike became Hon. Treasurer later Hon. Secretary before taking office as President for five years and is currently chairman and membership secretary plus acting as temporary newsletter editor.
Geoff Greenhough BA, M.Litt, MA – Trustee, appointed 2022
An Old Royal, Geoff is a retired history teacher & writer. After studying at the Royal, he was awarded degrees at Birmingham, Cambridge and London Universities where he studied History and Educational Management.
After a spell in commercial banking, he taught History in Nottingham and London schools for 25 years.
After leaving teaching he became a trustee of Rickmansworth Waterways Trust.
His interests include researching, teaching and writing (novels and history books) on the First World War, following numerous trips to the Battlefields of France and Belgium.
He has an interest too in contemporary politics & economic affairs and maintains strong links to his native Black Country.
He remains a long-suffering supporter of West Bromwich Albion.
A Declaration of Interests is held for each Trustee, and is updated annually.
