Expanding the proposed Sports Hall

The DfE building and refurbishment programme is focused on refurbishing those  buildings they define as “essential to education” and building a new Primary School building, all of which are promised to be “compliant with DfE school provision guidelines”.

DfE guidelines apply to Primary and Junior schools which are separate.  The Royal though is an all-through school in which pupils of all ages use shared facilities.  The swimming pool is a good example.  The School believes a 4-court sports hall is justified in terms of pupil need across the whole school (4-19 years - over 1500 pupils) but also the needs of the local community.  Just like the swimming pool, Astroturf, dance studio etc., the use of the sports hall by the local community, and other schools, will bring in additional income so making it a commercially-viable investment - even more so if it is extended to a 4-court one.

The School has a stellar track record in developing athletes in many sports.  Extending the sports hall, in what is considered to be a deprived area, will enhance the opportunities for young and old to enjoy and excel in so many sports.

Financing it will be the responsibility of the School, but the Foundation can play a major part in helping generate funds.
